My backyard is mainly woods, which makes it too shady to grow any plants other than hostas that hardly ever bloom. I tried putting silk flowers around, but they didn't weather well. Last year I bought a wrought-iron tree with eight movable multi-branched limbs and hung several bird feeders on it. The squirrels loved it.. Whole squadrons of them came to my tree just to empty all the feeders daily. This became financially prohibitive, so I decided to turn the tree into a hummingbird feeder instead. Hummers love red and I do too. I decided to attach a lot of red silk roses to my tree, but didn't want to watch them fade. Google led me to Outdoor Silk Flowers, from whom I bought a bunch of red roses. I duct taped them onto each branch, hung up some hummingbird feeders, and watched happily as hummers replaced the squirrels at the tree. That worked out so well that I bought more roses and made a second tree. Now I have branched out, so to speak, to taping daisies, lilies, irises, and hyacinths to bottle trees and placing them all around my patio. Even though I have too much shade and a brown thumb, I now have what I've always wanted -- a profusion of gorgeous colorful flowers none of which require water, fertilizer, dead-heading, or any other care. It's the ideal situation for me. (PICTURES BELOW)
